Cyngor Eco - Eco Council
Here at Plascrug, we follow the Eco Schools initiative, that encourages pupils to engage with environmental and sustainable development issues.
Yma ym Mhlascrug, dilynwn y fenter Ysgolion Eco, sy'n annog disgyblion i ymwneud â materion amgylcheddol a datblygu cynaliadwy.
The Eco Council comprises of pupils from Year 1 to Year 6. They were elected by their peers at the beginning of the academic year and they meet regulary at lunch times to plan, discuss and carry out events. At the moment, the members are busy working with the School Council, Governing Body and Senior Managment Team to help organise and develop our new playground. This will be a lengthy and challenging task since the new extension has been completed.
Mae'r Pwyllgor Eco yn cynnwys disgyblion o Flwyddyn 1 i Flwyddyn 6. Cawsant eu hethol gan eu cyfoedion ar ddechrau'r flwyddyn academaidd ac maent yn cwrdd yn rheolaidd yn ystod amser cinio i gynllunio, trafod a threfnu digwyddiadau. Ar hyn o bryd, mae'r aelodau yn brysur yn gweithio gyda'r Cyngor Ysgol, y Corff Llywodraethol a'r Uwch Dîm Rheoli i helpu i drefnu a datblygu ein maes chwarae newydd. Bydd hon yn dasg hir a heriol gan fod yr estyniad newydd wedi'i gwblhau.
Let's meet the Eco Council!
Dewch i gwrdd â'r Pwyllgor Eco!

Veg and Herb Stall
On Wednesday the 21st of September, the Eco Council held a stall to sell onions, runner beans, potatoes and a variety of fresh herbs all collected from the raised beds. All the money raised was used to buy spring bulbs. One giant pumpkin managed to survive the summer holidays and the Eco Council decided to hold a competition to guess its weight. Many parents, children and staff paid 50p to guess the weight. It was a close competition but one family guessed the closest - 19lbs! Congratuations to the Pumpkin Twins! We hope you are happy with the prize!

Gardening Day Again!
On Saturday the 17th of September, parents and children of Plascrug yet again volunteered their time to improve our nature area. The path that was started in July was completed, thanks to wood chip donated for free by Mount Trading and wood was cleared in readiness to build shelters in the wooded area. Leigh Denyer from the forestry again offered his services and completed the structure. He will work with small groups in the next few weeks to complete the shelter. Parents also helped mow and strim the grass and the raised beds were weeded before the winter.
Mrs. Macy is now on maternity leave, so Mrs Morris and Miss Hughes (Year 5) will be looking after the Eco Council and garden this year.

Gardening Day
On Saturday the 16th of July, parents and children of Plascrug gave up a few hours of their time to help clear the wooded area of the school. A great deal was achieved in a short space of time. We look forward to achieving even more in September! Thanks to Leigh Denyer from the Forestry Commission for giving up his time to create a shelter structure for the children to build in September and to all who gave up their time to help!

Go Green for Gardening Fun Day
The Eco Council would like to say a big thank you to all the pupils, parents and staff who supported the fun day on Friday the 27th of May. It was a huge success. £417.93 was raised to help pay for the plants for our raised beds! Many pupils dressed up in fancy dress and played a range eco themed games designed by year 5 and the eco council, from Garden Maths to Create a Junk Model. Here are some pictures from the event!

Gardening SOS
Thank you to everyone who gave up their time on Saturday the 21st of May to help improve our school grounds. We made a real difference in a short amount of time. More information about the day can be found on the online noticeboard.

Yellow Woods Challenge
The Eco Council encouraged pupils and members of staff to bring in their old Yellow Pages for recycling as part of the Yellow Woods Challenge. Here is a picture of two of the pupils who have been making a huge effort! Well done! Da iawn!

The Big Pedal
Congratulations to all the pupils and staff who cycled to school during 'The Big Pedal Challenge'. We were the only school in Ceredigion to take part in the national competition and we came 36th in Wales! Well done everybody! Da iawn bawb! You may have noticed that we also have two new cycle shelters. Hopefully this will encourage more pupils and staff to cycle to school.

Hog Roast Event
Thanks to everyone who supported the Eco Plant Stall in the Hog Roast event on Tuesday14th of June. We raised over £10 for the Eco Fund from selling our plants that we had grown from seed in gardening club.
Gardening Club | Clwb Garddio
It is that time of year again! If you wish to join our lunch time gardening club, please speak to your class Eco Council members or Mrs Macy. If you have any pots and plants to donate to the school, we would be really grateful!
We have built seven raised beds that were ordered by the Eco Council from the Morrisons Let's Grow vouchers. Each year group will now plant their own raised bed! The Eco Council are looking forward to see the results!
